The Cumberland County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Cumberland County Cultural & Heritage Commission welcome you to the historic architecture of our beautiful county. At this site you can learn more about Cumberland County’s over 350 years of architectural history. Home to such wonders as the last remaining bayside lighthouse on the shoreline of New Jersey and one of the most intact and well preserved 18th-century churches in the tri-state region, the county is full of architectural wonders for you to enjoy.

Funded in part by a grant from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities, this initiative began in 2010 as an effort to provide audio podcasts to visitors of several of these historic sites, which while owned by non-profits or government entities, were rarely open for tours. While this site will grow to include dozens of examples of significant architecture, at its core are the sites which participated in the podcast project. These sites are each marked with signs containing quick response or QR codes which will direct smart devices to the appropriate podcast.

New information is constantly being added to this site, so you are encouraged to check back often to learn the latest on the architecture of Cumberland County. Enjoy your visit, explore the website and our beautiful county, and click on the “About” button to learn more about our work.
